School update 4/5/20

4th May 2020

We are now 6 weeks into the lockdown some days I feel that this is flying by and others like it's going on forever.  I know being a parent myself to two young children that it's becoming tougher to keep our children in routine and we all wish it was over and we could connect more with our extended families and friends.  Working from home and juggling it all is not easy. Every house has individual circumstances therefore we ask that parents and guardians simply do their best. A little work each day to keep our young minds fresh and engaged.

During May we hold devotions to Mary, the mother of Jesus. In school we would set up our May Altar with a statue of Our Lady, a few flowers, a candle and some Rosary Beads. In our Daily Prayers we would pray to Mary everyday.

If it is possible it would be great if you could set up a May Altar at home to devote a few prayers to Mary. If you want you could send in photos of your May Altar to us to share with the community. If you don’t have a statue of Mary, children could draw a picture of Mary and pick a few wild flowers to decorate their altar. It will be a very good sacred space to pray at during the month of May.  The Primary Behaviour Support and Provisions Team have provided resource packs for families called High Five. The pack includes lots of wellbeing activities and ideas to support children and families at this time. There is also an advice and support section for parents and carers. You can access the pack by clicking on the link below.

Both the Education Authority and myself have issued letters to parents of next September’s P1 children advising them of their places. Just a reminder for those who have received their letters and have not yet emailed in to accept their place, please do this as soon as possible. The email address is smccafferty143@c2kni.net

With the current lockdown continuing as a result of COVID-19, in the next few weeks we will be sending out information on how we plan to support Primary 1 transition.

This year the May Bank Holiday is this Friday 8th May. If we had been at school as normal the children would have been off so we all hope that everybody takes a break from schoolwork next Friday. Hopefully the weather is good so that the children can get outside to their gardens!

Remember to follow the advice from the Public Health Agency on staying at home unless you have to go to work or the shop.  Keep safe and God bless.
